NINE INCH NAILS Recruit Australian Drummer ALEX CARAPETIS

October 9, 2005

After a two-show run with A PERFECT CIRCLE's Josh Freese, NINE INCH NAILS have recruited Australian drummer Alex Carapetis (more information) to take over the drumming duties for the band beginning with the Chicago show on Friday (October 7).

Commented NIN mainman Trent Reznor in an online posting, "Josh Freese helped us out by playing the Salt Lake City and Denver shows as a substitute, while Alex Carapetis took over tonight in Chicago. We played the set with Alex for the first time at midnight the night before... not exactly how I like to do things but the only other alternative was to cancel more shows and I am NOT going to do that. I can't begin to tell you what a difficult job it is to replace your drummer in this band, and these guys have truly risen to the high-pressure situation that it is."

As previously reported, NINE INCH NAILS' regular skinsman, Jerome Dillon, was forced to leave the tour because of his struggle with a heart condition. Dillon played with NINE INCH NAILS on Oct. 1 in Los Angeles after the band was forced to postpone their Sept. 30 show in Oakland, California. The Oakland show has since been rescheduled for Nov. 19.

The tour's Sept. 16 opener in San Diego was cut short after Dillon collapsed onstage. The following night's performance in Tucson, Ariz., was also postponed.

Dillon later blamed "fatigue and exhaustion" as the cause in a post on his message board. He also explained that "the decision was made to hire replacement drummers (for this leg) to allow me enough time to adjust to medication and to also spend time pursuing my true passion...gardening."

NINE INCH NAILS are scheduled to perform at the Gund Arena in Cleveland, Ohio tonight (Oct. 9).
